THE STORY.
Perry Montauredes has spent forty years chasing sound.
It started in 1983, when he formed The Rebekka Frame with Nicky Garrett, formerly of the UK Subs. Their debut, “Haystacks,” came out on both sides of the Atlantic, and the band played the New York circuit hard for years.
By the early '90s Perry had moved into a loft in Midtown Manhattan and disappeared into the work. Gothic industrial, electronica, orchestral writing. He scored commercials and independent films, and produced records in between.
His ear was trained in the opera house. He studied with Maureen Smith of The Met and City Opera, and the classical discipline stuck. It shaped his own singing, and later the way he taught the students who found their way to his studio.
In 1993 he worked with Rick Neuhoff of Unison on several projects, including “Fountains of Gold,” with guitarist Ray Gomez and Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess sitting in. In 2003 he co-produced “Please God Protect Me From Your Followers” for The Incredible Dollface. The record earned a Grammy nomination.
These days Perry produces a small roster of artists and teaches voice from his studio. Mostly, though, he is still chasing sound.
